Good Quality Spark Plugs – Essential For Better Car Tuning

December 29th, 2010

To perform effectively, an efficient car engine needs ample supply of cold air rich in oxygen along with the optimum amount of fuel with good spark caused by spark plugs. The better the quality of the spark plugs, the better would be the performance of the engine. Thus spark plugs play an important role in the engine tuning and really boost your car performance.

It is essential to know the basic structure of a typical, good quality spark plug. The ceramic casing acts as a good insulator and the electrodes from the central tip and the negative end connects to the engine block of the car. The ceramic casing helps in a small explosion to occur at the tip. However keep in mind that a high voltage is used in such explosion to happen so care is needed when doing the electrical chores of the car and it is highly recommended to kill the engine unless necessary.

The most important part is the intake of air as it has a great affect on the combustion part of the process. Any obstruction in the intake will affect the efficiency of the burn. This is where the role of good quality spark plugs comes into action. Better placement of the spark plugs can really boost your car performance and with a slight acceleration, your car will start talking to the air. Placement of the spark plugs with a slightly wider gap has been witnessed as a good technique to enhance car’s performance. One more effective placement to increase the efficiency could be to place the plugs along the side of the intake. At the top of the ceramic edge make a mark while the plug is out of the box so a trail can be seen as entering the engine. Typically all the plug threads are different from each other so if the mark does not line up with the intake just rotate it 45 degrees until it aligns with the intake. Normally the spark takes the shortest path so the gaps must be same all around when even working with the plugs having two, three or even four tips you will just have a single contact point.

The Ultimate Guide To Modified Car Insurance

December 29th, 2010

Car modification is an area I have dabbled in myself and I must confess to finding great enjoyment in it. There will always be those who see anyone who modifies their car as a “Boy” or “Girl” racer. Of course, this may be the case for some, but others spend a huge amount of time and money on their beloved cars. The last thing on their mind would be driving dangerously and jeopardising the safety of their most precious item.

The modifying of your car can provide a welcomed focus and is certainly very enjoyable. There are many hobbies that appear superficially to follow a similar theme. Modifying a Pc and adding the latest parts, such as a new processor to increase performance is very similar to adding a new component to a car to increase speed and performance. Indeed, it can be said that to many of us, most things in life can come down to speed or performance in one way or another.

The topic that will never be far from this one is that of modified or performance car insurance. Of course if you modify and improve the performance of your car you will pay a higher premium price. Nevertheless, for some of us it can be a struggle to find a car insurance company even willing to insure a modified or performance car in the first place. Then you will have to consider paying an extortionate amount to cover your car, leaving most us a nervous wreck.

The problem lies mainly in the engine modification department. Changes to exterior fittings such as tailgate spoilers, new alloy wheels and body kit will make a noticeable difference in your premium, but at least this is an area most insurance companies are willing to cover. When it comes to engine modifications and cars with extremely powerful engines, a lot of them will not even enter into giving you a quote.

If you have added only exterior items or changed the in-car entertainment system then you can pretty much go ahead and search through quotes in the usual manner. You must remember to ring the car insurance company you have chosen after selecting the best quote for your car as standard. I would suggest picking several of the better value for money quotes, ensuring they give you the coverage your looking for (remember cheapest is not always best) and then ringing the company to continue the quote and give details of your modification. You should find most companies are pretty modification friendly as long as there only minor changes.

If you have modified you engine by way of a chip, induction kit or similar then things start to get a little trickier. This is also the case with having a generally high-powered performance engine. Many mainstream insurers will not insure a car with engine modifications or a high-powered car with a young driver. Here you will be best to follow the same procedure as above and seek quotes from specialist insurers. You may find the process a little slower but you will be rewarded with a more tailored and possibly cheaper policy.

Above all, you must remember to be honest to your insurer. Something as small as misinforming the insurer as to where you car will be kept overnight can be seen as fraud. Altering details to give yourself a cheaper policy, if not accurate, will ultimately result in voided insurance when the issuing company finds out.

Illegal Car Modifications

December 29th, 2010

There are several modifications available to car owners looking to improve their vehicle’s appearance and performance. As some manufacturers are willing to produce modifications for international clients, the differences in legality can become a serious problem for American motorists. This can also be complicated by each different state’s laws concerning Between street racers and enthusiasts willing to bend the law, illegal car modifications can readjust a car’s performance to be dangerous for the driver and can cause mechanical malfunctions.

Illegal modifications, also known as mods, use aftermarket parts to make a car handle better, reach higher top speeds, and increase gasoline use efficiency, to name a few examples. Some mods are used to reduce the weight of a vehicle, which can increase speed and handling, while others create a more aerodynamic body. Other modifications can include reworked wheels, either providing greater traction or adding aesthetic flair with chrome or spinners.

Although not commonly thought of as a modification, car radios and radar devices can still be considered modifications. While most radios do not violate any laws, radar devices are illegal in many states.

While legal mods can be a fun way to customize a car and enter into legal races, illegal changes to a car can violate safety standards that are put in place for a reason. Mods that affect electrical systems can increase the chance of malfunction, making turn signals and headlights more vulnerable to failing than if factory specifications were retained.

To check which modifications are legal and which ones are not, consult your local law enforcement community. To learn more about how modifications can affect liability in cases of driver negligence, contact an experienced car accident attorney.
